AIIMS row: BAJ extends strike for one day, decides to discuss future strategy | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 18: The work in the State High Court Jammu Wing as well as District Court Jammu remained affected as the lawyers are abstain on the issue of shifting of AIIMS to Srinagar which was earlier announced for Jammu in Union Budget and also decided to take up matter with like minded organizations to chalks out future strategy to keep pressure on state and central government as well According to Bar Association Jammu (BAJ) spokesperson, Bar has also decided to suspend the work tomorrow on May 19, besides deciding to hold a meeting tomorrow in office at Janipur at 10:00 AM in which all the representatives of the Society, Organisation/Associations, be it the Political, Non Political, Social, Religious have been invited to attend the meeting to express their view point regarding the genuine cause of people of Jammu Province. The J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu today held the meeting of its Executive Committee to discuss the further course of action on the establishment of AIIMS at Jammu. President BAJ Abhinav Sharma and other office bearers, the senior members also spoke on the occasion and passed a unanimous resolution to take up the issue of AIIMS- Jammu. They also condemned the statement made by Chief Minister during a formal media interaction on May 15 that AIIMS would be established in Kashmir and said that as the establishment of AIIMS is 100% centrally sponsored project, therefore Chief Minister of the State was not competent to make such statement. The members of the J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu took serious exception of the role being played by the elected representatives from Jammu Province and in particular of those sharing power in the Govt. While speaking in this meeting BAJ members held Central Govt and the State Govt responsible for giving step motherly treatment to the people from Jammu Division since 1947 and said people from Jammu in the past had to agitate on every issue be it establishment of Engineering College, Medical College, Central University duration of Amar Nath Yatra and this time the people from Jammu Province are being denied the establishment of AIIMS at Jammu despite having been declared to be established at Jammu. The members also condemned the contradictory stands taken by the CM regarding the non-feasibility of artificial Lake and the statement made by the Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sh. Choudhary Sukhnandan which is contrary to the stand taken by the CM. In the meeting it was also decided that work in all the Courts shall remain suspended tomorrow (Tuesday) as well and the J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu in this regard shall take all the District and Muffasils Bar Associations into confidence in the matter. The other District and Muffasils Bar Associations of Jammu Province i.e. Kathua, Samba, Kishtwar, Hira Nagar, Ramban, Akhnoor, Reasi, Udhampur have also decided to suspend the work tomorrow. (JNF) |
