YHAI flags off 2nd batch of trekkers in 7th NHTE 5/24/2015 12:09:09 AM Early Times Report Udhampur, May 23 : 2nd batch comprising of 19 trekkers including 2 females from different parts of country participating in 7th National Heritage Trek Expedition being organized by Youth Hostels Association of India J&K State Branch in collaboration with Udhampur Administration and Directorate of Tourism Jammu . The honour of flagging off given to 6th standard student trekking enthusiast Archit from APS Udhampur and Balwan Singh Dy. Director Adventure Promotion. The batch included some of the most travelled and experienced trekkers of the country of varied age group from 21 years to 60 years of age from Udhampur base camp. Its worth to mention here that the 1st batch was flagged off on 21st May by SSP Udhampur Mohd. Suleman Choudhary IPS. Around 80 trekkers were sent to Panchery for onward trekking. The trek will cover the areas with Udhampur as the Base Camp, Karimchi temples of heritage importance. First night halt at Pancheri Forests with rich flora and fauna on way to 2nd night halt at Lander, 3rd night halt at Sanasar a beautiful meadow with a lake in the centre and perched with Fur forests on all sides is also a hub for Para-droppers. Passing through Natha Top with barren hills and high velocity winds giving a varied experience to the trekkers, 5th night at the world famous tourist resort of Patnitop in thick Deodar forest, 6th night halt at Mantalai where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parwati were married via Gauri Kund where Goddess Parwati used to worship Lord Shiva and Sudh Mahadev where the lord Shiva killed the Demon who was chasing Goddess Parwati. 7th day morning the trekkers tranfered by bus to base camp Udhampur and disperse after evaluation and receiving certificates. These programmes used to be very educative with knowledge about the heritage of the state at Karimchi temples by the experts of Archeological Survey of India, about the wild life by the experts of the Wild Life department at Pancheri, about the flora & fauna and the medicinal plants, herbs and shrubs available in the locality. This trek is being organized under the active guidance of Mohd. Shafi Pandit I. A. S,(Rtd) National President of the Youth Hostels Association of India. Er. Padamshree S.P.
