Brawl between two BJP ministers delays cabinet meet | | | Peerzada Ummer
Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 23: The tussle between the two senior ministers of the Bhartiya Janata Party is taking toll on the administration with the sources saying that two BJP ministers lock horns very often. Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh and health minister Lal Singh are not on talking terms with each other. The recent spat between the two dominated the cabinet meet in which major reshuffle in the civil administration was ordered. Both the senior ministers levelled allegations and counter allegations against each other. While their colleagues watched in amusement, the duo accused each other of being ignorant of the ground situation. According to sources, last cabinet meet was delayed by fifteen minutes when the duo accused each other of failure to run their respective ministries. While the deputy chief minister Dr Nirmal Singh was accorded a vital portfolio of power and housing, Lal Singh has been made in-charge of the health sector of the state. Experts are of the view that if the rivalry continues between the two senior ministers of the present state coalition, it could directly hamper the overall progress of the state as both the ministers are holding the key portfolios which directly concern the common man of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. As Urban Local Bodies Polls are near in the state, the brawl between the two seniors could directly hit party's performance in the state especially in the Jammu a region. Sources within the BJP say that from the top brass of the party to the ground level workers, the tense relations between the two senior BJP ministers are known to all. What the party is more concerned is about the emergence of lobbyism within the camp- which could halt party's trajectory to the large extent. Congress had already tasted bitterness of such a trend with the party getting fragmented into pieces due to the vindictive relations between Ghulam Nabi Azad and Saif-ud-din Soz earlier. Soz had used his good offices at 12 Janapath New Delhi- urging the party high command not to declare the Chief Ministerial candidate ahead of the 2014 polls. The decision didn't only directly hit party's performance in the state but also made party workers rivals against each other. Instead of fighting polls, Congress in the state was fighting against each other within the camp. Now when the trend seems to be entering into the BJP house in the state, it remains to be seen who the party would manage to keep the fight between two singhs limited to them only and not to allow it to hamper party's overall functioning. Sources said what the BJP is more scared of is the effect of the rivalry on party workers. "Party indeed doesn't want a division between its leaders. With me or against me trend must be shown the door at an earliest so that same would not impede upon party much ahead of its inception in the state," one of the party workers wishing not to be named said. |
