Compensation awarded to a rape victim under VCS- 2013 5/24/2015 12:21:14 AM Early Times Report Jammu, May 23: In its first kind of case, Kishtwar court awarded compensation to a rape victim under Victim Compensation Scheme (VCS)-2013. Principal Sessions Judge Kishtwar Balal Joyti awarded 20000/- compensation under Victim Compensation Scheme to a rape victim Ms X (name not disclosed) for the offences u/s 366/376 RPC u/s 3 Clause (3) and Sub Clause (4) of J&K Victim Compensation Scheme 2013. Court after hearing prosecutrix and PP passed an order for rehabilitation of victim as it has become difficult for her to sustain without maintenance allowance or compensation and further observed that prosecutrix is a rural girl belonging to economically depressed family who has allegedly kept by the accused person under false promise of marriage, later became pregnant and gave a birth to a life but both mother and child are without maintenance allowance and their survival is difficult as such her case was recommended to Member Secretary Legal Aid for allotment of funds under the head of disbursement to the victim till disposal of charge sheet as it may take some time for conclusion of Trial on the recommendation of Court Rs 20,000/- has been sanctioned. According to the police case the prosecutrix was raped by accused Babu Ram and consequently got pregnant and later delivered a baby boy who approached to Chairperson DLSA for compensation to her as she has been put to starvation and vagrancy.
