Poonch, May 23: On the occasion of world biodiversity day, a road rally cum awareness campaign was organized by Rufford project team working on the awareness. According to press release, Dr. Harish Chander Dutt, Project Leader sensitized the local people about the ecological importance of local medicinal plants growing in the region and the role of the local people in conservation of medicinal plants and preservation of local environment. Road rally cum awareness campaign was the main attraction of the programme where even local shopkeepers of Chandimar and passengers on the Mughal Road also interacted with the project team. Cultivation of the important medicinal plants is the one solution for both conservation of medicinal plants and economic benefits said Zubair Ahmed, a scholar from University of Jammu. Local people who accompanied the project team of The Rufford Foundation, London were Dr. Zubair Sofi, Mr. Sadiq Butt, Bhushan Dutta and Aslam Zaffri. The event was facilitated locally by The Himalayan Ecological and Conservation Research Foundation, Jammu. |
