Manohar Parrikar meets CM Mufti, reviews LoC security | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 23: Defence minister Manohar Parrikar visited line of control in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Saturday for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation prevailing along the de facto border with Pakistan which often sees attempts of infiltration by militants and other undesirable cross-border activities. Accompanied by Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag, Northern Command Chief Lt. Gen. D.S. Hooda and Nagrota (Jammu)-based 16 Corps commander Lt. Gen. K.H. Singh, the defence minister was briefed on the anti-infiltration measures by top commanders on the ground, defence spokesman S.D. Goswami said. He added that Mr Parrikar interacted with the officers and jawans of the Army at forward posts along the LoC in Hamirpur battalion. He also took tea with them and patted them for their alertness on the divide line. The defence minister was briefed by Lt. Gen. Singh, commander of the White Knight Corps, on the overall security situation and other important issues pertaining to strategy for the coming months, the spokesman said, adding, "He also interacted with the local commanders and troops deployed in the area who apprised him on the prevailing security dynamics on the LoC." He also met chief minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed for reviewing the security situation along the borders and in the hinterland in the restive Himalayan state. They discussed "several strategic issues related to prevailing security situation in the State," an official release had said. |
