KATRA, June 1 : Amidst beating of drums with full cultural and religious ambience, the three-day historic Agar Jitto Mela also known as 'Guni Mela' in remembrance of Dogra folk hero Baba Jitto Mal gets underway here today. The District Development Commissioner (DDC), Reasi, Sushma Chauhan inaugurated the fest. On the inaugural day, a colorful cultural programme including folk dances, skits, plays depicting the life of Baba Jitto, local folk, social evils were also performed by the students of various educational institutions and the local artists. After paying floral tribute to Bawa Jitto and complimenting people of the area , especially pilgrims from across the country, the DDC said that such type of festivals provide an opportunity for all to see the rich culture and heritage of the region, which further help in strengthening the bond of brotherhood and communal amenity. Interacting with the participants, DDC appealed them to take part in the mela which is playing a pivotal role in promotion of local culture, brotherhood and communal harmony in the society. A Dogri movie "Reet" on 1st June evening, Dogri play 'Baba Jitto' by famous Natrang Theatre Group on 2nd and 3rd June , traditional dangal by the J&K Indian Wrestling Association on 3rd June would be the main attractions of the mela. Besides, stalls by different departments like agriculture, horticulture, handloom, employment, rural development and various banks were set up so as to educate people about various schemes and also to display their products. |
