'Coalition Government fails to give adequate relief to flood affected families' | Balwan ridicules Rs 94 as compensation to farmers | | G S Asgotra Early Times Report
Jammu, June 1: Ridiculing a measurable compensation of Rs 94 to each famer against damaged crops due to hail storms and flood of last year, congress leader Balwan Singh today said that despite huge funds released by Union government, the state government is rubbing salt on the bound of affected on name of 'relief'. Addressing a protest outside the office of SDM, Marh the Congress leader said that the farmers have suffered great losses on account of damage to the crops of wheat, paddy and vegetable in view of heavy rains and other allied factors. "This has resulted into great hardships to the farmers, as the farming community have small land holding and most of them are unable to repay their agriculture loans besides to meet the ration and food requirement for six months and purchase the seed and fertilizers", he said. The famers under the leadership of Balwan Singh submitted their memorandum to SDM Marh. Singh expressed his resentment over the indifference attitude of the state as well as central governments toward the plights of the farmers in the state, especially in this region, as the government has so far failed to provide any sort of relief or financial assistance to the affected famers. "The state government has failed to take necessary measures to provide free ration, besides seed and fertilizers to the farmers as result there is great unrest and resentment amongst the farmers", he said. He urged upon the governor to save the farmers of Jammu region of starvation. "Governor should ask the state government to wake up to this situation and come to the rescue of the suffering farming community to announce provision of free ration for six months, providing free seeds and fertilizers besides waving of agricultural loan of the farmers", he added. |
