MC Abolishing : Municipal Employees to observe valley-wide strike today

Anantnag, Jun 1 : Kashmir Local Bodies' Employees Union, (KLBEU) an amalgam of 47 local bodies in Kashmir on Monday announced valley-wide strike on June 2 (Tuesday) against the high handedness of police in Pahalgam and non-seriousness of state government in revoking SRO 149.
Pertinently, the said order has left employees of the 72 year old local body of Pahalgam to go for strike for last two weeks against the abolishing of Municipal committee Pahalgam.
According to reports, Pahalgam police baton charged municipal employees during a protest demonstration and detained municipal Employees Union Leaders near Langanbal who were on way to Pahalgam.
"Along with the president of Kashmir local bodies' employees union, Manzoor Ahmad Pampori hundreds of municipal employees were on way to Pahalgam to participate on scheduled protest march but police near Langanbal stopped the convey of municipal employees and detained several among the including president Manzoor Ahmad Pampori and district president Anantnag," a municipal employee Hilal Ahmad informed Early Times.
Meanwhile reports also said that police also baton charged the crowd to disperse the agitating employees at the spot, however employees continued their march and reached Pahalgam.
Eyewitness said that after reaching Pahalgam and joining the protest march of municipal employees of Pahalgam and blocked Pahalgam-Chandwari road which caused inconvenience to visiting tourists and passengers.
They said that police again later resorted to cane charge and dispersed protesting employees from the road.
Meanwhile employees accused police of misbehaving and abusing female employees during the protest demonstration, eyewitness said.
Later in the day, while addressing the protesting employees inside the premises of Municipal committee Pahalgam, leaders wowed to continue strike till government bends and revokes the decision. Kashmir Local Bodies' Employees Union President, Manzoor Ahmad Pampori while talking to Early Times said that local bodies across Kashmir will observe one day strike against the high handedness of police and non-seriousness of government towards the protesting employees in Pahalgam and Gulmarg.
"Tomorrow on June 2 (Tuesday) all the local bodies in Kashmir will suspend their work and will observe a complete strike against today's episode and government's non-seriousness in revoking SRO-149," he said.
Pampori said if government fails in revoking the decision, the local bodies' employees union will expose the government before the public.
Questioning the government decision, he said, "What is the reason behind abolishing Municipal Committee Pahalgam and Gulmarg ?
"We will let know the people and expose the hidden agenda of government," (KLBEU) president said while adding further course of action will be decided in general council meeting conveyed on June 3.
