PSC on Water Resources arrives in Srinagar for 3-day visit | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 1: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water Resources arrived here today on a three-day visit to Kashmir to assess the issues concerning flood management and relief and rehabilitation. During their stay in Kashmir, the members of the Parliamentary Panel headed by Hukum Singh would review the progress of comprehensive plan for flood management on River Jhelum Phase-I with the state government officials. The panel would also review flood forecasting, disaster management initiatives, ground water scenario, command area development and water management projects in the Jammu and Kashmir. The members would also undertake field visits of various flood-affected areas in Srinagar, besides taking on-the-spot review of works pertaining to flood protection along River Jhelum and various flood-spill channels in Kashmir. The Kashmir valley was hit by devastating floods in September last year which led to casualties and huge damage to several houses and other structures. |
