RS Pura, June 1: The first of the one day workshop on "Production and Promotion of Export quality Traditional Basmati rice of R.S. Pura" was inaugurated by Daljeet Singh, vice-chairman, J&K Board for Development of Kissan here today at Krishi Vigyaan Kendra R.S. Pura. The programme was organized by the Department of Agriculture, Jammu and sponsored by BEDF (Basmati Export Development Foundation) Modipuram, UP. Gagan Bhagat, MLA, R.S. Pura was also present on the occasion. Besides, Ritesh Sharma (BEDF, Modipurum UP), Padam V.P. Singh, All India Rice Exporter's Association, S.S. Jamwal Director Agriculture, K.S. Risam Director Extension and J.P. Sharma Director Research SKAUST-Jammu delivered the technical lectures on the subject. Speaking on the occasion, Daljeet Singh, paid a patience hearing to the problems faced by the farming community and promised their early redressal. Bhagat discussed the problem faced by Basmati growing farmers and assured full support in development of Basmati being the pride and valuable crop of the area. Dr. S.S. Jamwal, Director Agriculture, Jammu gave detailed deliberation about the importance of cultivation of Basmati in Jammu division especially in the areas of R.S. Pura, Bishnah, Samba and Kathua district. He said that since the Basmati rice requires less nutrients and water requirement is low as compared to other coarse and semi fine varieties. As such, he stressed upon the Organic cultivation of Basmati rice. Chief Agriculture Officer, Jammu. C.M. Sharma apprised about the achievements of Organic cultivation of Basmati rice in Jammu district. Among other officers who participated in the programme include S. Matinder Singh, S. Harjeet Singh, B.B. Sidha Dy. Project Director, Ravinder Kachroo Dy. Project Director (ATMA), Dr. Gayartri Tandon, Sagar Sharma, D.D. Bhagat and Vikas Koushal. Prominent former who were present on the occasion include Dev Raj, Sham Gurkha, Kulbushan Khajuria, Rajinder Prasad and others. |
