CHENANI (Udhampur), June 1: The 3- day Sudhmahadev mela in Chenani tehsil of Udhampur district got underway amidst colourful festivity today.
Thousands of devotes thronged Sudhmahadev temple to seek the blessing of Lord Shiva during first day of three-day mela.
Legislators, Dina Nath and Vikram Aditya Singh and Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary jointly inaugurated the mela.
While speaking on the occasion, the DC congratulated the people and said that such melas are helpful in promoting our culture and traditions adding that such events play a pivotal role in maintaining brotherhood, peace and prosperity.
They also inspected various departmental stalls set up by Agriculture, Horticulture, Health, National Health Mission, Apiculture, Handicraft, Handloom and Animal Husbandry departments and exhorted upon the officers to educate the masses about various state and centrally sponsored schemes especially for socio economic upliftment of the rural people.
District administration had made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Mela like uninterrupted power, safe drinking water, sanitation, medicare and security.
On the occasion, Department of Youth Services and Sports Udhampur organised a cultural programme for the entertainment of the people at the Mela site.
Sub Divisional Magistrate Chenani, Mr. D.K. Sharma, Tehsildar Chenani, (Mela Officer), Mr. O.P Bhagat, senior officers of different departments, pilgrims, prominent citizens and Mela Committee members were present on the occasion. |
