Minister dissolves Council, promises new body soon | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 6 : The State Government today dissolved the State Sports Council in the midst of its four-year tenure with the promise to nominate new set of members and appoint a Secretary from and among these members within a fortnight. Earlier, soon after the meeting got underway, with Minister for Sports, Imran Raza Ansari in chair in the capacity of vice president of the autonomous body, announcing the formation of district councils. Soon after the decision to set up district councils made, Minister allowed the members to speak out their minds. However, within no time, one of the Jammu based member, put forth proposal for dissolving the Council for which the Minister had already made up the mind and a unanimous decision taken. "When the Minister had already made up mind to dissolve the sports body then why he called the meeting spending a lot of money on members air travel and stay in five-star hotels. The Sports Council can be dissolved through a simple letter issued by the Government in this regard," comment a member soon attending to the meeting. Earlier, Secretary, Youth Services and Sports and Technical Education, Hirdesh Kumar briefed the Council about the constitution of District Sports Councils. Among others, Special Secretary, Finance, Director Planning and other senior officers were present. Sports Councils at district level The Sports Minister passed some amendments in the Rule 20 of J&K Sports Council Constitution by voice vote for constitution of District Sports Councils, to be established in every district with concerned District Development Commissioner (DDC) to be its chairman. The other members of the District Sports Councils shall be one Sports Council member as vice president, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, office bearers of district units of recognized State Sports Associations and Sports Council employee, in-charge of the district, as secretary. Rs 6 cr for new stadia. The Minister said that Rs six crore have been earmarked under state sector for the development of sports infrastructure in the state. He said the amount will be utilized judiciously on establishment of new stadia at specific locations with ultra modern facilities. He also said that Smart Sports City shall be established at Jammu and Srinagar on PPP mode. On the occasion, some members of Sports Council suggested that only sports knowing persons should be involved in development of sports in the state and screening of state teams to represent in national level sports events shall be done by the experts of the respective games. |
