Doda: 200 vehicles seized, 3000 fined in drive against violators | | | EarlyTimes Report
Doda, July 7: Traffic Police in its drive against the traffic violations has seized nearly 200 vehicles and penalized about 3000 vehicles in the ongoing traffic awareness week in Doda town. The action has been initiated against the violators under various heads of offences including driving without licence, triple ride, over speeding, overloading, not using seat belts and not wearing the crash helmets. The drive against violators will continue in future also. The drive against the violators had been long overdue. According to the official data, on an average two people die daily in road accidents in Doda district. Since January this year, road mishaps have accounted for more than 100 deaths. Approximately 67% of the victims were in the age group of 15 to 40 years. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Farooq Ahmed said, "Youth pay least attention towards traffic norms. They are often found indulging in over-speeding, rash driving and ignoring traffic rules mainly at crossings and intersections." He said the two-wheeler commuters were the biggest casualty of road accidents in Doda city. "Commuters have no patience for traffic norms and everyone is in a hurry to reach their concerned destinations," said another official. He added, "When the traffic rules are violated, it often results in mishap in terms of fatal and non-fatal category." In majority of cases, he said, rash driving and over-speeding are the two main causes behind the rising number of accidents. "There is need to avoid rash driving and everyone has to play a role for safety measures on the roads," the official said. "The department is trying to aware people about traffic rules to ensure safety on roads, but it is also duty of people to highlight wherever they see a violation," he added. |
