Ajaz Jan seeks streamlining of contingency plan to meet challenge of weather vagaries | | | Early Times Report POONCH, July 21: Provincial President Youth National Conference and former legislator Ajaz Jan on Tuesday lambasted the PDP-BJP government for pursuing anti-poor policies and failing in providing basic minimum utility services to the people, especially in backward and far off areas. Addressing a protest rally here today at Mandi despite heavy downpour, Jan referred to the discrimination being meted out to power subscribers, saying while the supply is erratic the people are being charged heavily. In this context, he referred to the mechanism having been adopted to charge flat rates in the areas where meters have not been installed so far and said despite no supply they are being fleeced in terms of whopping billing. On the contrary the metered subscribers, though suffering for want of power during the ongoing summer season, pay little. He also criticized the Power Development Department for charging the consumers indiscriminately by way of showing several connections in a single house-hold. Jan urged the administration to look into this lacuna immediately and take necessary corrective measures. The Provincial Youth National Conference President also referred to scaling down of the kerosene quota in rural areas and said this has caused enormous problems to poor population. He sought streamlining of the kerosene supply as per requisite scale. |
