KVK Rajouri organizes awareness programme on Parthenium Management | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 27: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Rajouri under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Jammu and under the auspices of Directorate of Extension Education, SKUAST-Jammu today organized awareness programme on Parthenium management at village Lamman, of Sunderbani Block. According to press release, programme was attended by more than thirty five farmers/ farm women. Dr. Vinod Gupta, Sr. Scientist KVK, Rajouri briefed the farmers about the role of KVK in uplift of farmers. Thereafter, he addressed the various issues to be covered under the main theme of programme. While addressing the farmers he briefed them that such programmes are being celebrated throughout the country for generating awareness among the farmers about the management of this noxious weed. He also encouraged farmers to organize them in the form of federation so that whole community of farmers of the area may be benefitted. He stressed upon that parthenium is such a weed, which cannot be eradicated until and unless a community is aware of it and a joint/community approach is needed to overcome it. Dr. Parul Gupta, Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Sciences) talked about the ill effects of parthenium in animals. Being a toxic plant it can cause allergy to animals and reduce the milk production in dairy animals. She focused upon the dairy management techniques and eradication of parthenium for the betterment of animals. Regarding management of parthenium mechanical, cultural, biological and chemical methods were suggested. |
