Newly-wed dies mysteriously, family holds protest, demands action

Bhaderwah, July 27: Suspecting foul play in the death of a newly married woman, the parents of deceased and relatives held a protest today and blocked Doda-Bhaderwah road near Seri village demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
According to reports the body of 20 year-old newly-wed woman was brought by her parents to Bhaderwah for last rites and her family members alleging it a dowry death staged a protest today.
The victim identified as Varsha Devi (21), married to one Sanjay Sharma s/o Ashok Sharma R/O Gadigarh, Jammu went missing two months back and was found dead in Kathua.
According to relatives of deceased said that there were signs of injuries, burn and torture on ber body. Meanwhile the deceased's father Tirat Lal R/O Neota ,Bhaderwah in a complaint to the police at Police station Bhalla , Bhaderwah stated that Varsha's husband and in-laws are responsible for her death. He said that two months back Sanjay Sharma firstly kidnapped her and after that arranged a court marriage with her without their consent. He also stated that in month of May they also had lodged a missing report in Police station about his daughter.
"On Saturday evening some unknown called me and told us about our daughter's death in Kathua, he said and added that the in-laws of his daughter have killed her. He said the house of the Varsha Devi husband is at Gadigarh Jammu but her body was found in Kathua which itself reveals a foul play.
The family members of deceased also have alleged that the husband of the woman used to harass and abuse her verbally for dowry and other pretexts. They demanded a thorough probe into the whole episode and immediate arrest of the husband for murder. ASP Bhaderwah Amit Bhasin pacified the protesters by assuring a thorough probe into the matter and on the assurance, the protesters dispersed and performed her last rites.
