| Mischief mongers' plan be nipped in bud | | | Mischief mongers continue to make determined bids at derailing peace in the region of Jammu where the threat from militants and separatists has become a thing of the past. It is not yet known whether these mischief mongers receive support and guidance from agencies and elements across the border since these agencies feel upset over the way militancy has been contained in the region of Jammu. These mischief mongers first played their game in Rajouri a month ago where a section of people staged protest demonstrations in what they called sacrilege having been committed. What was the issue ? The VHP activists had torched ISIS flags in protest against waving of Pakistani and ISIS flags in some parts of the Kashmir valley.The protesters alleged that since the ISIS flags carried some sacred lines from the religion they staged demonstrations as part of voicing their anger against the sacrilege. As soon as the protesters indulged in acts of violence the town was placed under curfew restrictions and the Army was called out to defuse the situation.Better sense prevailed among the prominent and senior people belonging to the two communities whose intervention calmed down the protesters.
Were the VHP activists,who were involved in the burning of ISIS flags,oblivious of some verses from the scriptures written on the flags ? or had the VHP activists bent upon derailing peace by torching the ISIS flags without caring for the lines from scriptures written on the flags ? Or were the protesters indulging in breast beating to convince others,including the Government agencies,that lines from scriptures had been written on the flags ? Or were the protesters trying to give vent to their anger against burning of ISIS flags under the guise of their claim on sacrilege having been committed by the VHP activists ?These are some of the questions that should have been answered by the district administration, especially by the sleuths of various Central and State intelligence agencies.Since lines from scriptures are written on the ISIS flags the VHP activists should have realized the consequences in case they torched the flags. However, those who support the VHP say that the activists were simply torching the ISIS flags nd they were not hurting any religious sentiments.The VHP supporters say that the plan was to react to the waving of ISIS flags in the Kashmir valley in recent weeks. Whatever may have been the purpose behind the action and reaction peace was derailed for some time in Rajouri.
This is what the mischief mongers have done in some parts of Samba district the other day where groups of people, belonging to one community. indulged in acts of violence torching and damaging Government and private vehicles during their demonstrations held in protest against sacrilege. The protesters were simply demanding immediate action by the Government in nabbing those involved in the sacrilege.Imagine the difficulties faced by the commuters when the protesters blocked the national highway forcing the suspension of transport services. Assess the damage caused to the Government and private property. Well the damage can be compensated and repaired but the wedge that has been caused between the two communities may take time to narrow down so that the members of the two communities live like good neighbours. Well the Government, rather the district administration,whether in Rajouri or Samba,have done the right thing to call out the Army after imposing curfew restrictions.In such cases the situation has to be tackled with a heavy hand lest there should be enormous loss of life and derailment of peace. It is now the duty of the Government to arrest the culprits who were responsible for committing the sacrilege so that they could be awarded heavy punishment. Well if the Kashmir valley is tormented and troubled by militancy related violence the region of Jammu sits on a volcano which can go off with a minor spark of communal trouble. Thus it is imperative for the Government to set up peace committees, comprising prominent citizens belonging to both the communities, so that designs of the mischief mongers were nipped in the bud. |
