Fuel scarcity renders GMCH Autoclave Plant defunct | | | Bijay Charak Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug23: The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) administration and the hospital mechanical wing are at loggerheads over the issue of making fuel available for the Diesel Autoclave Plant. While the administration claims that it has been providing funds regularly to buy fuel for the plant, MHCH division has alleged that the non-availability of funds had rendered the plant defunct for the past one year. Sources told Early Times that Diesel Autoclave Plant in GMCH, which costs crores of rupees, had been lying dysfunctional for the last one year due to scarcity of fuel. The liquefied oil is used as fuel in CSSD to sterilize all equipments including scissors while all other items used in operation theaters, Kitchen, Laundry but the same fuel is running short. "When the diesel autoclave plant id defunct, electric autoclave is used. Electric Autoclave is generally used for emergency block but surprisingly for the last one year, it is being used for sterilizing articles from all the blocks" they said, alleging that couple of months back, electric autoclave had gone dysfunctional due to which not a single surgery was conducted for four days, forcing the patients to visit private hospitals or clinics for even minor surgeries. "Instead of learning any lesson from the problem, the administration started blaming each other instead of mending their ways and to provide an alternative to the problem", sources said. When contacted XEN Mechanical Wing Harjeet Singh Chibber said that in last eight months the hospital administration hadn't released funds for fuel due to which they had failed to clear the liabilities of already purchased fuel. Medical Superintendent, Dr Ravinder Rattan Paul said that the government had sanctioned funds timely and assured to visit the mechanical wing to know about the problem. |
