JAMMU, Aug 23: The Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association (JKBWA) held a meeting at Village Chack Lal Din here today which was attended by majority of Batwal Community members including unemployed youth and students. Batwal community students studying in higher classes told the meeting that their scholarships for the year 2013-14 have not so far been sanctioned to them by the Social Welfare Department and they are not in a position to buy costly books and meet their other day to day expenses. The Association urged the Minister for Social Welfare Department Bali Bhagat to look into the matter and direct his Department to release the pending scholarships of SC students at the earliest. On the other hand, the community's unemployed youth also told the meeting that despite being highly educated, they are hankering for government job which is being denied to them by the recruiting agencies. They said without job they cannot come out of poverty and lead a dignified life. Association President and former MLA Sat Paul Lakhotra urged the Prime Minister to sanction an employment package in favour of the Batwal Community on the basis of survey report of its Ethnographic Study undertaken by the Central Planning Commission in the year 1994. On the occasion, Social leader Jaggo Ram was also remembered and it was resolved to observe his day on August 30 in the Community Facility Hall at Shahzadpur. Association Election Commissioner Ramesh Kumar Kaith announced that the election of various office bearers of the Association would be held at Shahzadpur on September 13. He said the persons interested to contest may fill up their nomination forms before August 30. He further said that only those who have Ration Card in their possession would be allowed to cast their vote. |
