Army's Northern command celebrates 49th Awwa Day | | | Early Times Report Udhampur, Aug 23: The Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA), Northern Command celebrated its 49th anniversary today on 23rd August. Functions to mark the occasion were held at almost all the major military stations in the State with the main function being held at Udhampur. Raised in 1966 AWWA has evolved as one of the largest registered NGO of the country. The organisation has been rendering yeomen service in the fields of societal obligation, social empowerment and skill building. The celebrations were marked by various competition for the members. All members were educated and sensitised on child abuse and preventive measures to be taken. A talk on health related issues was also organised by a specialist. An entertainment programme was stashed by Navrang Group. The rich heritage and culture of our country was depicted by way of Folk Dance by the versatile artists of the group. The Veer Naris (Widow of martyrs) were given special focus during the above celebrations and were felicitated during the celebrations. The Regional Presidents Awards were conferred on selected ladies for their outstanding contribution to the organisation during the year. |
