Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 28: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's visit to Jammu marked a high voltage drama at the Technical Airport Jammu where two senior leaders of the party virtually came to blows while two others also created scene for seeking their inclusion in the reception committee. The incidents once again brought to fore bitter infighting and factionalism in the State Congress, which had recently witnessed a revolt by third front and consequent suspension of three senior leaders from the party.
According to the eyewitnesses, the PCC senior vice-president Sham Lal Sharma and the CLP leader in Upper House, Jugal Kishore Sharma entered into heated exchange of words between them minutes before the arrival
of Rahul Gandhi. Even as PCC president G A Mir and other senior leaders tried to pacify Sham and Jugal, the duo kept hurling allegations against each other besides making threatening marks, sources said and added the high voltage drama continued for several minutes till the arrival of Rahul Gandhi.
The trouble erupted when Jugal Kishore in a lighter vein passed some remarks against Sham Lal Sharma and Madan Lal Sharma over their alleged attempt of projecting themselves only. However, instead of avoiding the comment, Sham Lal shot back and virtually warned Jugal against passing such remarks. The exchange of words between the two soon turned into heated arguments and allegations against each other.
The situation turned so tense that at a point, both of them virtually seemed coming to blows even as other senior Congress leaders, present on the occasion, tried to pacify them.
The high voltage drama continued for more than twenty minutes and both the leaders silenced their guns only after Rahul Gandhi arrived at the Technical Airport, sources said.
Further, scene was also created there by former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand and former Minister Mohd Sharief Niaz after they came to know that their names were not included in the reception committee to receive Rahul Gandhi at the Technical Airport. Even as Sharief Niaz was later adjusted in the committee and was allowed to enter the Technical Airport, Tara Chand had to face embarrassment as he was not accommodated. He kept waiting near the main gate when other Congress leaders were receiving Rahul, sources said.
