HC grants last opportunity to file response | PIL on publicity to Masarat Alam | | Early Times Report
jammu, Aug 30: A High Court division bench of Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar and Justice B S Walia granted last opportunity to the State and Press Council of India to file response within two weeks in the PIL regarding separatist leader Masarat Alam. When the matter came up for hearing, it was argued that within a day's time media made Masarat from an unknown individual to the leader of the separatists. It was further argued that only 100 people gathered in some corner of the valley and raised anti-national slogans and waved Pakistani flags but it is the media which should be held responsible for this, as it has publicised the matter in such a way as if the whole valley is anti-national. "Instead of showing the life history of freedom fighters like Gandhiji, Bhagat Singh and many more, Media houses have engaged themselves in projecting the life history of Masarat Alam, as if he is the freedom fighter or actor of our Country", it was argued. The Press Council of India was also asked to take necessary steps so that such news items shall not be aired in future and shall not be publicized at all.(JNF). |
