Dr Farooq, Omar Abdullah pursue separate agenda on issues concerning people of J-K | Son remains silent; father goes all out on 'critical' issues | | Jehangir Rashid
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 30: Former Chief Minister and working President of National Conference Omar Abdullah has preferred to remain silent over some issues that hogged the limelight over the past one week or so. On the other side Omar's father, Dr. Farooq Abdullah has been quite 'vocal' on these issues. Omar has not uttered a single word over the recent statement of Sartaj Aziz, advisor to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that Pakistan can go for an all out with India provided the Government of India does not stop in launching war of words against Pakistan. The NC working President did not deem it fit to say anything on an issue which concerns the overall security of the country. In the past Omar would never miss an opportunity to take to micro blogging site of Twitter and send tweet after tweet on any issue even though the issue was remotely connected with Jammu & Kashmir and its people. This time around he has neither spoken nor taken to Twitter for voicing concern over the statement of Aziz. The statement of Aziz assumes significance as it was issued after the cancellation of talks between him and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. The talks got cancelled after Pakistan objected to the conditions set out by India that Kashmir would not be on agenda of the dialogue between Aziz and Doval. Since Omar was a former chief minister of Jammu & Kashmir he should have responded to the statement of Aziz that Pakistan can go for a war with India once it feels that neighbouring country is dictating terms to it. Omar preferred to remain silent as if nothing had happened and everything was fine between India and Pakistan. On the other side Dr. Farooq took strong exception to the statement of Aziz and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to mend ways or be ready to face music. Dr. Farooq who is the President of National Conference did not mince any words in castigating Pakistan and the policies adopted by the government there. The NC President went a step further when he said that Pakistan is the 'real guardian' of the separatist leaders. He said the separatist leaders won't annoy Pakistan and as such take dictation from the people across the border as and when they have to speak or take any action. On the other hand Omar of late seemed to have developed love for the separatist leaders and as such did not say anything about separatists since their talks with Aziz became the pivotal reason for cancellation of talks between him and Doval. Omar does not want to annoy the separatist leaders since he knows it fully well that he has already been castigated by them time and again. The cross border shelling between India and Pakistan has also led to holding of divergent views by Omar and his father. While Dr. Farooq appealed for restraint in this regard his son is non-serious on the issue and he is yet to issue any statement on the same giving an impression that he gives 'damn' to an issue that is hot these days. |
