JK to get new CS after Mufti's return | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 30: The state cabinet is likely to take call on the appointment of new Chief Secretary after Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed returns from Delhi on Monday. Indications are rife that the state administration will remain headless for a few days as the incumbent Chief Secretary Mohammad Iqbal Khanday has decided not to attend his office from Sept 1 (Tuesday) after submitting his papers for voluntary retirement three months before his due date of superannuation earlier this month. Well placed sources said that the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed presently in Delhi is likely to return on Monday and that the state cabinet is likely to meet on September 2 to take a decision on the appointment of new Chief Secretary. Sources said that government is thinking of appointing a non-controversial bureaucrat as new chief secretary, who will have backing of both BJP and PDP. In this category, senior IAS officer BR Sharma seems to be a preferred choice. The name of another senior bureaucrat Khurshid Ahmad Ganai is also in consideration, but as he is to retire in November so his chances to occupy the top seat seem quite bleak. Meanwhile, Government spokesman said that the state cabinet is authorised to take a decision on the appointment of new chief secretary."The cabinet will take a decision on a suitable choice by consensus," he said. |
