Old couple robbed of jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 8: Tricksters struck yet again Thursday, this time at Maheshpura near Bakshi Nagar here, duping an old couple of gold ornaments worth over Rs 3 lakh. Two persons came to the house of Dwarka Nath Sangra, son of Ram Lal Sangra, at Maheshpura in the afternoon and told him that they were representatives of a company which does the work of polishing gold jewellery. They told them that as part of the company policy to apprise the people of its products, they had been carrying a door-to-door campaign. While speaking to him, they took his old ring. Police sources said when they returned him the ring after polishing, it was shining. They then asked him and his wife to give them their gold ornaments for polishing. Once the powder was sprinkled on gold ornamnets, they asked the woman to take them out and drop them in the boiling water into which they had already poured some white coloured powder and nothing inside was visible. After stirring it for some time, the two tricksters asked them to boil the water for some more time so that the ornaments retain their original shine. They then left their residence, promising to come back soon after shining the gold ornaments of their neighbour. The couple kept waiting for them but they did not return. In the meantime, man thought of taking out the gold ornaments himself but was stunned to find that the utensil contained not a single ornament. It took him no time to realise that he had been duped. The couple later lodged a complaint in this regard with Bakshi Nagar police station. It may also be mentioned that police have also failed to arrest the fraudsters who had in September last duped a family at Digiana of gold ornaments worth Rs 2 lakh. |
