Nexus between SMC, leading missionary school | 8 Teaching ethics, practicing corruption! | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 8: Kashmir valley's elite school located in Srinagar's posh Rajbagh area which claims to be teaching moral values and ethics to its students is found involved in an unholy nexus with the employees of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC). A leading missionary school, according to SMC documents is not paying sanitation fee even as the civic body lifts piles of garbage from the school premises on a daily basis. As per reliable information the Srinagar has a monthly income of more than 15 lakhs but it does not to afford to pay a mere Rs 3000 towards the SMC. The information has been furnished b an officer of the SMC in response to a RTI petition. The sweepers of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) regularly take out huge garbage from the school premises as more than 1700 students are on the rolls. The RTI reply whose copy is also available with Early Times reveals that SMC officials are not charging any monthly fees from the the School management for lifting the huge garbage which gets accumulated in the school premises. "Even if the monthly fees is collected that may be collected illegally by the SMC officials without giving any receipt to school authorities. The said fees instead of going to state treasury goes into the pockets of SMC employees attached with ward 30 Rajbagh . In this whole process the school management as well as SMC officials are involved as this is a scam " said an officer of SMC (name withheld) "The SMC has never charged any fees from the school for lifting of huge garbage and this is the direct loss to state exchequer. Had SMC paid at least Rs 3000 per month towards SMC with proper receipt , the amount would have been in lakhs if calculated from the past ten years, but they (school management) are instead bribing the officials of this organization and this matter has to be probed. The unholy nexus between SMC & Convent school stands exposed "said Umar Javaid RTI Activist who sought these details from SMC. Pertinent to mention the missionary school in Srinagar is under possession of 90 kanals of state land which was leased out to them many decades back by the Government. Irony is that the school management is paying mere Rs 12000 as annual rent for the said land which is having a market value of more than 500 crores as on date. The missionary school is not at all a Non Profit Organisation as students in this school are charged very huge fees by the school management and on the other hand school has failed even to pay sanitation fees towards the Government (SMC). As per reliable information other reputed private schools are paying an amount of Rs 3000 per months towards SMC as monthly sanitation fees. "We would take up this matter with the Government and would ensure that this whole issue is probed" said Dr Mushtaq Khan RTI Activist and senior member of Jammu Kashmir RTI Movement. |
