Toshakhana was shifted to Srinagar on 'verbal' orders of J&K's PM in 1951 | No proposal for display of royal treasure in Dogra Museum, says Govt | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 8: For the first time in post independence , the J&K Government has come out with details of treasure of Dogra Rulers that was shifted from Jammu to Srinagar way back in 1951, thanks to query to this vital subject put up in the Upper House by Congress MLC Rani Gargi Blowria. The question was tabled in the House, albeit with a terse reply from the Government that there is no proposal under consideration for display of Royal Toshakhana in Dogra Art Museum at Mubarak Mandi or newly renovated Army Headquarter Mubarak Mandi Jammu, as asked by the MLC in her query. In the written reply to this question even though the Government admitted that royal treasure of Dogra rulers was transferred from Jammu to Srinagar but could not specify the reason for this despite the MLC having asked for this step. Since the Congress legislator had sought the copy of order for transfer of Toshakhana from Jammu to Srinagar, the Government has responded to this by stating that there were 'verbal' orders of the Hon'ble Prime Minister (the then PM) of Jammu and Kashmir for shifting this from Jammu to Srinagar. The reply also gives some insight into the present status of Toshakhana both at Srinagar and Jammu . While some valuable items have been kept in 'Double lock' at Sadar treasury in Srinagar and in the premises of Directorate of Hospitality and Protocol Gupkar Road Srinagar those which were in Mubarak Mandi Jammu were shifted to what the reply states as 'secured' room in Civil Secretariat after fire broke out in Mubarak Mandi. This was done in pursuance of the cabinet decision No> 283/17 and subsequently the Government order No. 39-H&P of 2006 dated 22-12-2006 was issued in this regard, says the reply. Even though the Government has replied in negative to the query that have some valuables and items of great historical value and antique value stolen from Toshakhana and gifted to some persons, the fact remains that the treasure in addition to being historically important values lakhs of crores of rupees. There is endless list of inventory and annexures suggest consisting of gold, silver, valuable jewellery, precious stones and metals, rare carpets and silk etc etc. |
