CM concerned over growing domestic violence in J&K | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 8: Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed Thursday expressed his concern over the growing trend of domestic violence in the state and said that the "non- serious approach" of police "discourages victims not to report the cases to them". Replying to NC MLA Ali Muhammad Sagar's calling attention notice over the mysterious death of a woman at Khanyar, the Mufti said: "Women who face harassment at the hands of their in- laws were reluctant to report the matter to police due to the non-serious approach of the police department." He said he did not know how police released the accused responsible for the death of the Khanyar woman. "I don't understand how police released the accused from the judicial remand. Police should have taken strict action against the culprits responsible for the death of the woman," he said. He said that women who face harassment do not report most of the times as police have "shown non- serious approach" in dealing with the cases most of the times in the past. "Police must take speedy action in these cases. Lawyers can also be hired to for exemplary punishment to the culprits of these incidents," Mufti said. |
