Geelani remain under house arrest, Malik arrested in Srinagar | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 8: Chairman of hardline Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani and another senior separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah remained under house arrest while Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief was arrested this afternoon. Restriction of Geelani and Shabir and arrest of Malik was done to maintain law and order, official sources said. A spokesman of the HC said security forces and state police personnel remained deployed outside the residence of Geelani, who remained under house arrest since April 16, a day after he returned from New Delhi. However, he managed to give slip to security forces and addressed a rally at Tral on May 1, where two youths were allegedly killed in custody and on June 5 when he was allowed to visit Regional Passport Office (RPO) in connection with his passport. Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chief Shah, who has recently joined Geelani group, also remained under house arrest for the past about one month. A spokesman of the front said that a police party raided the Maisuma house of Malik and arrested him this afternoon. |
