As strike calls fail, separatists change strategy | Desperation at its peak! | | Give ‘chalo calls’ to disrupt normal life Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 10: Separatists are leaving no stone unturned to keep the pot boiling in Kashmir and want disturbance to prevail so that normal life remains disrupted and their bosses sitting across the Line of Control (LoC) remain happy. As people have stopped paying heed to the frequent shutdown calls given by the separatists and have turned them irrelevant, now separatists have changed their strategy and have started calling for marches (chalos). To make his presence felt the Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani has called for Zainakote chalo on Wednesday to ensure that Government takes precautionary measures and life comes to stand still for yet another day in Kashmir. A prominent businessman wishing not to be named said: "We are fed up of these strikes and chalo calls. Business community had taken a collective decision not to pay any heed towards the strike calls and we had succeeded to some extent. These chalo calls have become a headache as authorities impose curfew like restrictions when such calls are given and leads to normal life getting disrupted." He said a handful of people have misled Kashmiris for the past 25-years and have proved to be the biggest impediments in the progress and prosperity of the Valley. "Kashmiris’ have realized that these shutdown calls and protests are not taking them anywhere and they have started rejecting the hartal politics as well as the separatists," he added. An analyst while talking to Early Times said: "Separatists have realized that their days are over as people don't take them seriously. Shutdown calls not evoking much response has left them red faced that's why they have evolved chalo strategy so that they can tell their bosses that they have been able to perform their task." A police officer said, "Whenever separatists call for these marches we have to take extra precautionary measures to prevent stone pelting and loss of life. We have observed in the past that whenever separatists call for chalos their men activate the miscreants who provoke the forces and it leads to casualties. We don't like to impose restrictions. We do so to prevent loss of life." Asked would police allow Geelani to march towards Zainakote on Wednesday he said, "We have clear instruction that nobody should be allowed to disrupt law and order." A Kashmir watcher said, "Separatists also know it very well that Government won't allow their march. Geelani knows that he would be arrested outside his residence and people are not interested in following their calls and programs. By calling for such marches and strikes they (separatists) want to remain alive. Otherwise they know it very well that they are non-entities and people don't have any faith on them." |
