PDD starts crackdown on illegal power consumers | | | Early Times Report Bhaderwah, Jan 29: In a bid to improve power supplies in Bhaderwah and Doda Power Development Department (PDD) started a crackdown on consumers who do not voluntarily disclose their load. Official sources said the move has been initiated to avoid peak-time overload on the system, which is more than double the agreement and is fraught with forced power cuts. Around 4 inspection teams have already been set into action and the drive would be intensified "on massive scale" in the coming days ahead of the harsh winter. Executive Engineer PDD,Doda Er Bishan Das is monitoring the team performance on daily-basis and at times personally leads them for inspections. Sources said the PDD has been scrutinizing monthly bills of power consumers through workforce and specialized software to find the alleged offenders. "Most of such consumers have agreement for half-a-KV or KV of load whereas they consume around five KVs. This ultimately overloads the system, particularly the Mohalla transformers," said a senior official. He said that Executive Engineer has initiated a two-pronged strategy to overcome the overload: One that the consumers voluntarily disclose their load, or that the PDD inspection teams inspect the sites. "It is during these inspections, the squads of Power Development Department record the actual load in use by various consumers fully taking into account the diversity factor and based on these, the load, wherever necessary, is being enhanced for providing quality and reliable power supply to general public and in the overall interest of the department and the state," explained a senior official .Meanwhile PDD XEn Er Bishan Das "appealed the general public to cooperate with inspection squads to ensure regularization of illegal loads and make voluntary disclosure of load to avoid penalties under Electricity Act." |
