Govt formation: Deadlock to continue | | | Peerzada Ummer
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 29: The stalemate over government formation is likely to continue as the meeting which the PDP is holding on January 31 would skip the discussion over the present deadlock and would instead discuss the membership drive, sources toldEarly Times. "As far as the deadlock is concerned, there would absolutely no be discussion over it. The meeting has been convened to discuss how to strengthen the party at the grassroots," a senior PDP leader said. Interestingly, the speculations are ripe at present across the state that there will be a vital break through vis-à-vis the new government formation in the state. There were also the reports making rounds that the PDP which has 28 legislators in the lower house would announce its decision over whether it would continue the bonhomie with its former 10 month old alliance partner BJP in the state. However, if sources are to be believed, PDP is not going to reveal its cards even after the January 31 meet and would barter for more time to end the stalemate. A senior party leader divulged that the PDP's senior leadership has unanimously resolved that the meet would focus on strengthening the party at grass roots and the modus-operandi required for the same. "We would discuss how to launch a massive membership drive in Jammu and Kashmir. We will also seek the opinions and the suggestions of the leaders and workers so that a comprehensive road map could be achieved for the purpose," sources said, adding that no concrete decision will be taken on the formation of the new government during the January 31 meet. Sources said further that discussions during the meet would be held over how to introduce Mufti's 44-year-old son Tasaduq in state's political arena. Tasaduq in his recent interview has already hinted at joining active politics and strengthening the party of his father. Such latest political developments besides adding chaos into the already perturbing situation is sending BJP into a tizzy. The deadlock besides taking toll over the governance in the state is also leading to political uncertainty all across. Meanwhile, sources said that the PDP wants to buy more time so that a concrete road map is drawn for the governance in the state for next five years. Already there were few conditions set by the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti including return of the power projects from the NHPC and more portfolios for the PDP, before the BJP high command. However, the BJP hasn't responded well to any of the demands put forth by the PDP so far. With anti-incumbency wave started sprouting its roots in the state, PDP wants to gain maximum ground and return of at least two power projects from the NHPC in a bid to gain maximum ground for the times ahead. |
