Early Times Report

Srinagar, Mar 25 : A local court here has accepted CBI's report, closing the case regarding its investigation into the disappearance of a three-year-old boy, Mehran Lateef of Haba Kadal Srinagar, in 2008.
"As not only the Court was convinced by the investigation but also the complainants (parents) were convinced with the investigation of the case, hence the closure report presented before this Court by the CBI is accepted and case is closed," reads an order by CJM Masrat Shaheen.
However, the court said that the CBI was at liberty to reopen the case at any point of time in case any leading information was received by it in future.
Mehran's father Lateef Ahmad Mir and mother Rukhsaha had appeared before the Court and in their statements have stated that they are convinced with the investigation which has been conducted by the CBI.
They also admitted that during investigation, they have visited Delhi whereby a child was shown to them. They further stated that Mehran had undergone 'circumcision' but the child who was shown to them has not undergone circumcision although he resembled with Mehran.
They also stated that hair of Mehran did not resemble to their child either. However, at the same time they were convinced with the investigation which was conducted by the CBI.
In November 2013, the state High Court had directed Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the mysterious disappearance Mehran.
The HC had directed the Crime Branch to hand over the case to CBI after the state investigating agency presented the case diaries to the court. Uncle of missing boy had filed a petition before the High Court seeking CBI investigation into the matter. The Crime Branch had submitted its report in the court of Passenger Tax Magistrate on 5 November 2013 and had declared the case as 'untraceable'.
Mehran went missing on May 13, 2008 when he went out to buy candies from a nearby shop in Habba Kadal. Since then his whereabouts are not known. On the fateful day, Mehran had just returned home from Canny Mission School, when he asked his mother to give him some money to buy candies from the shop, which the kid would frequent. The mother gave him Rs five to buy candies. The little boy rushed out of his home in congested locality and went missing since then it has been a 'mystery.'
