Contractors' threaten to lock XEn IFC | 'Non-payment by department' | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Mar 25: Contractors associated with Irrigation & Flood Control department (I&FCD) have threatened to lock the office of Executive Engineer I&FCD on March 26 if their withheld payments are not released by the State Government. Contractors lead by Irrigation & Flood Control Contractors Association (I&FCA) president Ishfaq Mirza recently held protest at Rajouri against non-payment of their work done after September 2014 floods and earlier. In the month of January these contractors had organized chain hunger strike demanding immediate payment of their pending payments worth crores of rupees. But despite hollow promises the contractors didn't get their pending payment. "Most of the contractors have borrowed money from Finance companies and interest is increasing day by day which has worried many among them including losing of their hard earned money "said Manzoor Malik, contractor. The matter has been raised several times with the concerned officials and Minister, but despite assurances nothing has been done to release the pending payment of the contractors, said Daleep Kumar another contractor. "We are left with no other option than to lock the office of the Executive Engineer and we are not going to end our agitation till our payments were not released" said another contractor. He added department has failed to release their payments on one or another excuse for the works executed by them. They claimed that their payments worth crores are still pending for the works executed during and after 2012. "Not only this, after September 2014 devastating flash floods the officials of I&FC department requested the contractors to execute urgent works including protection walls on the assurances that within forty five days the payments would be released. But even after a gap of more than 18 months department has not yet released our pending payments", they added. In the month of January the annoyed contractors sitting on hunger strike in front of the office of Executive Engineer, I&FC didn't allow the functioning in the office but the administration has deployed policemen for the smooth functioning. Contractors have now warned that if the department failed to release their payments soon, they will lock the office on March 26 and for any untoward incident Deputy Commissioner and Department officials would be responsible. |
