Of over ambitious ex-Minister, DyCM's chair and BJP's timely damage control | | | Abodh Sharma Early times Report JAMMU, Mar 25: BJP saved many a blushes for itself on Friday by timely confirming Dr. Nirmal Singh's name as Deputy Chief Minister in Mehbooba Cabinet as an over ambitious former Minister was trying all tricks to engineer a coup and claim DyCM's chair in the new dispensation. Sources reveal that hours after the decks were cleared for the formation of a BJP-PDP Government in the State after three months of Governor's rule, covert cat fights had begun between former Ministers and aspiring BJP MLAs for berth in new Council of Ministers. The chair of Deputy Chief Minister in particular had become target of the few envious and over ambitious former BJP Ministers, who had played all gimmicks under the sky to grab it even when the BJP-PDP alliance Government was formed under Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Sensing an opportunity yet again as the new alliance Government is all set to be put in place after Mehbooba Mufti was elected as the leader of the PDP Legislative party, these pushy Ministers were out with their devices again. One such Minister, who held an important port folio in the previous edition of the BJP-PDP alliance Government and had left no stone unturned to get DyCM's chair had yet again activated his agents on the social media to post messages projecting him as the popular choice and most suitable candidate for the job. Frivolous messages of party's decision to appoint him as the Dy CM in the new dispensation were being posted to stir public opinion in his favour before the meeting of BJP national General Secretary Ram Madhav and MoS in PMO Dr. Jitendra Singh with the BJP MLAs in Jammu Friday. Laughably, a green horn about the traditions and conventions of the Sangh Parivar, this over ambitious Minister who para-jumped into BJP just before last Assembly elections had even approached senior RSS functionaries in J&K to project himself as the most suitable candidate for the DyCM's chair. Sources within the party divulge that several other MLAs are seeking a berth into the new Council of Ministers on the basis of their report card and citing not so impressive performance of their colleagues who were Ministers in the previous dispensation. Meanwhile, BJP has plugged the loopholes by timely announcing continuation of Dr. Nirmal Singh as the Dy CM. It has been reliably learnt that BJP is not likely to make too many changes in the previous Council of Ministers in the beginning of its second innings in Government, while a shuffle may be affected at a later stage to give chance to new aspirants amongst party MLAs. |
