Srinagar, Mar 25 : Chill tightens its grip as upper reaches received fresh snowfall while plains, including summer capital, Srinagar, had rain in the Kashmir valley, where life was affected again due to waterlogged roads. However, there was major improvement in the minimum temperature in the valley due to cloudy sky. A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that weather will remain wet in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. It will continue in the state on March 27 before it turns dry from next morning. The upper reaches, including holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, and its periphery has been experiencing fresh snowfall since last night. Reports of snowfall were also received from Sheshnag, Mahaguns, Panjterni and Pisso top on traditional yatra route. Interestingly the minimum temperature witnessed a considerable jump in Pahalgam where it was 5.6 degree against yesterday's 1.6 degree. It was raining at Pahalgam, resulting in drop in the maximum temperature, which was two degree above normal yesterday, reports reaching here said. Fresh snowfall was also experienced on upper heights in south Kashmir, including Mughal road. World famous ski resort of Gulmarg received rain since early this morning resulting in drop in the minimum temperature. Against yesterday's 1 degree, it was 0.4 degree, still a notch above normal. The maximum temperature, which was three notches above normal yesterday also recorded drop today as it was raining. Normal life in the summer capital, Srinagar, was also disturbed due to rain since early morning, though there was some improvement in the night temperature due to cloudy skies. Against 5.5 degree recorded yesterday, the temperature witnessed was 6.6 degree. The border town of Kargil in Ladakh region was the only place in the region where temperature was below freezing point. Against minus 3.5 degree recorded, it was minus 3.7 degree. Meanwhile, Leh in Ladakh region witnessed a considerable improvement in the night temperature. Against minus 2.4 degree yesterday, the temperature recorded was 4.6 degree. Qazigund, also known as the gateway to Kashmir valley, witnessed some improvement in the night temperature, though it was still below normal. Against 3.2 degree recorded yesterday, the temperature was 3.8 degree. Kokernag, another health resort, and Kupwara in north Kashmir witnessed a dip in the night temperatures respectively. Against 2.1 degree recorded yesterday in Kupwara, the temperature was 1.7 degree while Kokernag witnessed 5.7 degree, against 5.9 degree yesterday |
