'Time to give freehand to army in Kashmir' | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 17: The situation in Kashmir Valley is highly volatile. Anything can happen anytime. The Kashmiri leaders have turned so emboldened that they are openly preaching sedition and condemning the Indian State and are instigating their radicalized supporters, mostly youth, to attack Army and CRPF camps. The last five days have witnessed a number of incidents and the Army jawans and the CRPF personnel are seething with anger. The reasons: Hundreds of soldiers and CRPF jawans have suffered injuries, including fatal injuries, during the attacks on their camps. It would be suicidal to overlook what hundreds of radical elements did to the Army jawans and the CRPF personnel on Saturday. Similarly, it would be suicidal to overlook the participation of people in the anti-India protests. Pertinent to mention here, people in large numbers assemble at the encounter sites in a bid to display support to militants despite a police advisory asking people to stay at least two kilometres away from the encounter sites and it is this breach of advisory that is being termed by the Army and the CRPF as a "major concern." The complaint of the Army and the CRPF is that they are not being allowed by New Delhi to eradicate the seditionists and terrorists. Another complaint of theirs is that "they are being falsely implicated" and "they are not getting the required support from their masters in New Delhi". Their hands have been tightly tied and sources close to the Army and the CRPF say that they have been directed to exercise maximum restraint and not to use force and react only if they feel that a retaliatory action has become imperative. "They can react only if there is threat to their life and limb," sources say, adding that the "weak policies of New Delhi have only added to their difficulties" and that "if the attitude of the authorities in New Delhi remained unchanged for some more time, it would become extremely difficult to retain Kashmir". The truth is that the forces can only open precautionary fire to prevent any injury, loss or damage to personnel, weapons, equipment and other government property and that's all. It is good that the Centre on Saturday decided to send 36 additional companies of paramilitary forces to Kashmir to tackle the subversives, but this is just not enough. The government of India needs to revise its whole Kashmir policy as well policy vis-à-vis separatists and terrorists. The situation as it prevails today in Kashmir requires New Delhi to imitate countries like Israel, China, United States, France and United Kingdom. Why these countries? Why not to imitate Pakistan, which has been bombarding the "bad" Taliban-infested areas such as Balochistan and Waziristan to eradicate the anti-state elements. Kashmir has to be tackled at any cost and the task is not difficult. What is required is the will and determination. Army needs only ten days time to set things right in Kashmir. New Delhi must give the Army and the paramilitary forces ten days time to produce a moral effect or send a signal across the Valley that whosoever would take the law of the land in his hand will have to face the consequences and remember that there are not more than ten Kashmiri leaders who have created a very serious situation in the Valley. Can't the Indian state take care of these 10-odd Kashmiri leaders and cleanse the political establishment of the undesirables? It has to at the earliest. Otherwise, the nation will not forgive the present Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dispensation. |
