SKUAST-Jammu holds 17th Academic Council meet

Jammu, Aug 26: The 17th Academic Council meeting of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology (SKUAST), Jammu was held on 23rd of August, 2016 under the chairmanship of Prof. Pradeep Kumar Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu.
In his key note address, Prof. Sharma expressed his satisfaction over the working of University officials and applauded them for 6th ranking of University and asked them to work together to take this University to 1st rank.
He also briefed the House about the changing scenario of the academics in the present day times and emphasized that the quality of the education has to improve with the changing times and should cater to the needs of present day scientific fields.
Prof. Sharma informed the august members that improvement in the quality of education is dynamic. He showed satisfaction that our students are competing at the national level in large numbers and congratulated the faculty for making all out efforts to impart technical training to students.
He also informed that the ICAR in its Vth Dean's Committee report had declared the B.Sc (Hons) Agriculture as a technical degree and the VCI has increased the duration of the B.V.Sc & AH degree programme from 5 years to 5½ years.
The major highlights of the meeting which was resolved in the 17th Academic Council was centralization of examination, adoption of uniform all India basis syllabus and other applicable recommendations for B.Sc (Hons) Agriculture and B.V.Sc & A.H as recommended by the ICAR Vth Dean's Committee and Veterinary Council of India w.e.f the batch enrolled in 2016-17, approved M.Tech (Agriculture Engineering) in two specializations i.e Farm Machinery & Power Engineering and Soil & Water Conservations Engineering, Institutionalized the regulations for pursuing Post-Doctorate Fellowship Programmes and stringent changes in the regulations on curbing the menace of ragging and also introduced the Accidental/Group insurance cover to the national and foreign national students pursuing their degree programmes and also the nomenclature of post graduate courses as per the recommendations of Vth Deans' Committee Report.
Besides the University created a photographic and media cell which will aid the academic, research and extension activities of this University. Dr. Dileep Karchroo, Registrar, SKUAST-J as member secretary of the Council presented the agendas' of the meeting.
