Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 26: Amid ongoing unrest in Kashmir, the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has been "overcharging" the customers despite less use by the customers when there was clampdown on mobile services in the Valley. J&K government's had suspended the mobile networks over a month with the exception of state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). But the BSNL has been accused of having taking undue advantage of the situation and having sent overcharged bills. The postpaid BSNL subscribers on Rs 725 monthly plan complained that they had been charged over Rs 2000 for the last month. Hundreds of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) subscribers said that the company was overcharging them despite suspended service from last two months. "I used to get a bill of Rs 500 but last month, the BSNL has sent a bill of Rs 1300. I made only few calls that month," a BSNL subscriber Irshad Ahmad said. He said he also brought it to the notice BSNL authorities but to no avail. "Despite curfew, I managed to reach to BSNL office from Sanatnagar but the officials said they will look into the matter," he said. Hundreds of BSNL broadband and post-paid subscribers have expressed strong resentment against for sending of over charged bills. They termed it "unjust" action by BSNL. "Each month I receive bill from my BSNL broadband amounting to Rs 650, but this month they have raised bill amounting to Rs 1356 when I didn't use the broadband," Ali Mohammad a BSNL subscriber said. Various prominent people have requested the BSNL not to send bills to consumers for the current billing cycle and give certain concessions to them. "Not to talk of concession, they have overcharged its customers. This is an open loot by its authorities by charging extra to its subscribers," Shahid, a BSNL subscriber said. "When less people use BSNL in Kashmir so I made very few call from my mobile in the last month. But I have received a bill of 950 which the normally I used to receive around Rs 600 when I was making few hundred calls," he said. |
