Police tighten noose around Jamaat, TeH workers | Kashmir Unrest | | To be booked under PSA for waging war against the state
Early Times Report srinagar, Aug 26: A day after Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said that stern action would be taken against the people who are behind the present unrest in Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Police have decided to book more than 150 persons under Public Safety Act (PSA) for waging a war against the state. Sources told Early Times that Police have prepared a list of around 1000 people who are believed to be the key players. Out of these 1000 people at least 150 are the ring leaders who have been mobilizing the people to hit the streets. Insiders revealed that Director General of Police (DGP) has written a letter to the Inspector General of Police Kashmir Range asking him to mobilize the forces to track down the 150 accused and book them under the PSA. Police are on the job and these people will be rounded up within a few days," said a source. He claimed that the people who have been identified are linked with Jamaat- Islami, Geelani led Tehreek-e-Hurriyat and other separatist organizations. " There are possibilities about a few people from mainstream parties being involved in fomenting trouble but that angle is still under investigation," the source said, adding, "The people whom Police have identified are the known faces, who besides being the members of radical religious organizations also act as the Overground workers of militant outfits." They said the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, who also holds the Home portfolio, has been briefed about the activities of the anti-national elements and how they pushed the protesters towards the camps of security forces and Police Stations It is in place to mention here that the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday made it clear during a press conference here that the 5% people who are behind the present unrest would be dealt with sternly. "The people who have pushed the children towards death will be punished according to the law of the land and no one would be spared," Mehbooba had said. Sources said the list of the accused includes 3 people from Central Kashmir's Budgam district; 28 from Pulwama (South Kashmir); 22 from Kupwara (North Kashmir); 33 from Anantnag (South Kashmir); 11 from Baramulla (North Kashmir); Six from Ganderbal (Central Kashmir); 14 from Kulgam (South Kashmir); Eight from Bandipore (North Kashmir); four from Shopian and 12 from Srinagar. Insiders said besides booking these people under PSA the people whose accounts have witnessed suspicious activities during the past 2-months would also face the music as they would be asked to divulge the details of the money they have procured during the present unrest. "Curfew is likely to continue for one more week and it will be lifted a few days before Eid-ul Azha. There is a strong possibility about Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Hurriyat dove being isolated so that they are unable to issue the protest calendars. This will be done after their henchmen are arrested," the source added. He said the state government recently presented a complete roadmap to the union Home Minister Rajnath Singh about how its planning to end the unrest in Kashmir. "The Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has been assured by the security agencies and top brass of the forces that unrest is a temporary phase and it would end soon," the source claimed. |
