'Dahi Handi' celebrations steal show during Janamshtmi celebrations 8/26/2016 10:56:15 PM Early Times Report Poonch, Aug 26: Thousands of Lord Krishna devotees and locals drawn from across the society thronged the Shri Ann Poorna Temple to witness the Dahi Handi celebration to mark the auspicious occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami in border district of Poonch. The Dahi Handi function was organized by District Brahmin Sabha Poonch at Shri Maa Ann Poorna Temple on Shri Krishan Janamashtami. Dr S D Sharma, (Retd) Principal Degree College Poonch was the chief guest on the occasion which also was attended by galaxy of eminent citizens who shared dais with the chief guest. Three teams representing Tridev Seva Dal, Bajrang Dal and Maa Ann Poorna Temple participated in this religiously related event with the Shri Krishan Janamashtami. The Tridev Seva Dal emerged the winner of title while Bajrang Dal and Maa Annpoorna temple team have to satsfy with the runners up tag respectively. Speaking on the occasion, Darshan Kumar, General Secretary, Brahmin Sabha said, "Complying the order of Supreme court the height was reduced to below 20 ft and only above 18 years of Govindas were allowed to take part in the event" He also congratulated the teams and the people on the occasions.Earlier the chief guest Dr S D Sharma appreciated the organizers for organizing such a grand event and said, "Dahi Handi celebrations In this for flung area is really a grand success which educates the people that how we achieve difficult goals unitedly" Satish Sharma, Sham Khajuria, Devinder Sharma, Advocate Sanjay Raina, Neetan Sharma, Munish Sharma, Varinder Sharma and Anuj Sharma also spoke on the occasion. Thereafter a grand procession was taken out from Shri Geeta Bhawan Poonch in which thousands of devotees participated. Chanting slogans "Hathi Gouda Palki Jai Kanhaiya lal ki" large number of devotees passed through various markets of city and again reached to Shri Geeta Bhavan where the procession culminated. The procession was organized by District Sanatan Dharma Sabha Poonch under the supervision of Satish Sassan, President, Sanatan Dharam Sabha and Secretary Vijay Puri, General Secretary of the Sabha. Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Haroon Malik, Commander Poonch Brigade, SSP Poonch J S Johar and many prominent citizens took part in the procession.
