Forest Department goes offensive against timber mafia, 16 planks recovered

Bhaderwah, Aug 26: The flying squad of forest department Bhaderwah today conducted raid in Manthala Pondra village of Bhaderwah and seized 16 timber planks cost thousands of rupees.
The flying squad had a tip off that Deodar planks are hidden in forest fields. Immediately, the team conducted raids there and recovered the timber planks in evening and the seized timber has been sent to forest Depot. DFO Bhaderwah.
T B Singh confirmed the seizure of planks and said squads have been formed to intensify patrolling. "We have formed two groups headed by forest officials and provided them with lights to help them in patrolling even during night. Forest guards and watchers were part of the group. Work of the squads is being regularly monitored," informed DFO Bhaderwah T B Singh adding that the forest department has chalked out a strategy to launch a crackdown against forest mafia involved in illegal felling of trees in whole Bhaderwah.
Under this strategy, two mobile force teams which also included flying squads are assigned different areas for patrolling every night.
The department has instructed all teams to start night patrolling along with their team at different routes every day. Besides, the forest staff has been instructed for checking all the vehicles which are found carrying construction materials.
" Forest Department has gone offensive against the timber mafia in Bhadarwah Forest Division and is leaving no stone unturned in controlling the illicit damage to the forest wealth, where raids and checking have become order of the day, " said DFO Bhadarwah T.B Singh adding that the environmentalists are also coming forward and sharing the information.
A control room has also been set up in the Forest Department to monitor the activities of the timber mafia and to stop them from cutting trees in the forests.He also informed that a case has been registered in recovery of 16 planks and further investigation is going on.
