Tanker Attack issue: Tankers' delegation calls on Div Com, threatens of agitation | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 26: A deputation of Tankers' Drivers alongwith injured drivers (who were attacked in valley) today called on the Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal and reiterated fool proof security to the drivers and also threatened if such attacks continue they will be left with no option but to shut down the supplies to Kashmir Valley and other part of State. Deputaionists led by the S Ranjeet Singh Raina President J&K Tanker Driver Welfare Committee highlighted their issues and problems especially the assaults and damages to the Tankers in restive valley. Speakers raising the issue stated that according to injured Tanker Driver Anil Kumar and others who were mercilessly beaten by the mob at Bijbehara and Sheltang in Srinagar that too in presence of the Army and Police. "The protester even tried their best to set the tanker on fire, the speakers said while narrating the ordeal of the injured drivers. They added that vehicles were damaged in heavy stone pelting by the mob and they suffered a lot of loss and injured seriously. The delegation reiterated its demand of fool proof security and said that though the Divisional Commissioner Jammu himself recently have agreed to provide fool proof security to the drivers but the assurance turned futile in the light of this recent assault. "We are left with no other option but to snap the supplies to Kashmir Valley and other parts of State if such incidents continue to happen, they threatened. After hearing their grievances, the Divisional Commissioner Jammu assured that he will take up the matter with the higher authorities for the security of driver in valley and compensation to the Injured drivers and damaged vehicles. Later the deputation of tankers drivers also called on members of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Jammu. The deputation also comprises S Davinder Singh Puppy, S Manmohan Singh, S Sohan Singh, S Davinder Singh Gen Secy, Sanjay Mahajam of M/s Behari Lal Som Nath and Shashi Leekha of M/s Subash Road Lines. |
