Krishi Vigyan Kendra concludes vocational training programme

Reasi, Sept 3: Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu(SKUAST-J) concluded four days long vocational training programme on entrepreneurship development in vegetables growing here at KVK, Reasi campus.
The training programme was conducted under the guidance of Associate Director Extension(ADE) Dr. R.K. Arora.
More than 45 rural youths/farmers from nearby villages enthusiastically participated in the programme and various technical sessions were organised on scientific vegetables growing in the hilly areas.
Dr. Banarsi Lal, Incharge, KVK, Reasi initiated the programme with the warm welcome of the farmers. He gave a detailed view on entrepreneurship development in vegetables growing and said the farmers that the hilly areas have immense potential in vegetables growing.
He guided the farmers for the scientific commercial vegetables growing and narrated that by growing vegetables in a scientific way they are able to generate more income and employment. He described the principles of entrepreneurship development in vegetables growing.
He elaborated the scientific technologies for growing the winters vegetables like knol khol, radish, cabbage, cauliflower, turnip, carrot, potato etc. and suggested the farmers that they should consult with the experts of SKUAST-J before sowing the vegetables. He further added that they should procure the quality seeds of vegetables which can give the higher yields.
He demonstrated the nursery raising techniques in vegetables and emphasised on Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) in vegetables and guided the farmers about balance dose of fertilizers in winter vegetables.
He also suggested the weed control and proper spacing in the vegetables. He gave a detail view on Integrated Disease and Insect-Pests Management in vegetables and suggested the farmers that they should use only the recommended doses of agro-chemicals in the vegetables.
Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi, scientist elaborated on vegetables processing and suggested the farmers they can earn more money by the value addition of vegetables. He gave the preventive measures of vegetables diseases. Dr. Sanjay Kaushal, scientist stressed on protected cultivation of vegetables and guided the farmers on vegetables growing under polyhouse. In this programme some video shows on scientific vegetables were also organised by the KVK.
The programme was assisted by Jagdish Raj, Manhor Lal and Md. Iqbal. The programme was concluded by Dr. Banarsi Lal with the vote of thanks.
