Andher Nagari:School uniforms sanctioned last year delivered now | | | Akshay Azad Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 3: The seriousness of state as well as Union government to increase the students' enrollment in government schools has been exposed as the uniforms meant for students, enrolled in various government schools during last year, are being delivered after lapse of one year. Now the school administrations across the Jammu province have been confronting a peculiar problem of locating the students, who have either left the schools or were dropped out. Sources in Directorate of School Education informed Early Times that under a scheme of Union government, two school uniforms were given to each student free of cost, enrolled in all government schools. "The school administration forwarded the list of enrolled students and funds were sanctioned in favour of Principal of each school, with Rs. 200 for each pair of uniform", sources said, adding that against the lists of last year enrollment, the funds were sanctioned this year and presently uniforms were being purchased by the schools. For the previous year, no uniforms were given to students of government schools and now the uniforms have reached to some schools but the school administration has been confronting a very unique problem. All the students enrolled in class 5th of all Middle schools have left the schools; besides class 10th students have left High school and class 12th have left Higher secondary schools. How we will find those students, who have left our schools, a teacher pleading anonymity said. He further said that moreover, already five months of session have passes and majority of students have already purchased their uniforms. "What is rationale of serving uniforms in middle of session", he criticized, adding that such practice has defeated the purpose of giving uniforms. Another official said that if the funds for uniforms of ongoing financial year would be released, the students would be given another pair of uniforms. "Such policies are damaging the purpose of the extending support for government schools", an official said. Narrating more woes of school administration, the teacher said that the bank account in which the money for uniforms was transferred was a joint account of Principal, former Panches and Sarpanches. "These accounts were opened around a decade back and the names of Panchayat representatives of nearly 10 years back are running in accounts as the accounts are not renewed. How we can find these representatives", the teacher said. Officials in Directorate of School education said that the delay in release of grants by Union government had delayed the delivery of uniforms in last year. |
