BSNL's 2G mocks at subscribers | Private players provide 4G services | | Vinod Sharma
Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 3:At a time when private telecom service providers are providing 4G services in Jammu and Kashmir the public sector run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is running the pace of turtle as its 2G services are not running properly, even in heart of the city areas. Pertinently, a private telecom operator has recently started 4-G telecom services in the state, which has got a very good response from the customers, which is evident from the long rows of customers, seen outside the dealers' shops across city areas. A resident of Panjthirthi Raj Kumar while criticizing the services of BSNL said that most of private telecom service providers have been providing 3G services in and outside city areas but it was very unfortunate and disturbing that in many city areas, the 2G services of BSNL were not working properly. "According to the data pack, the private telecom service providers have been providing the services, which can be assessed everywhere in the state but BSNL charged the customer for 3G services but fails to provide even 2G services", he said, adding that in such a way customers have been feeling cheated. The average speed of BSNL internet on mobile phone is not more than 7-10kb/s and in such speed surfing of any website or downloading something is almost impossible, even in adjoining areas of Jammu city, Ramesh Sharma of Chatha said. "The poor services along with frequent call drop rates are not new problems with BSNL but have been going on since its launching in state", Sharma said, adding that if the services would not be improved, all the customers would ultimately switched over to other private networks. The call drop rate is very high and signals remain very weak and one cannot complete a conversation with someone in one call as the connection usually failed after every 30 seconds, Sudesh Kumari said. " Many days together in a month the BSNL server remains out of order, forcing the customers to switch over to other networks. Whenever the phone rings, I have to run out in open space or on roof to get the call as there is no connectivity inside rooms", she said, and criticized the department for this mess. A retired employee of BSNL alleged that a nexus between the private telecom service providers and some officials of BSNL could not be ruled out for such sorry state of affairs. "BSNL has maximum customers and only if the customers will feel frustrated with the services, they will switch over to private telecom operators, due to which the services of BSNL are deliberately kept poor", he said. The Chief General Manager of BSNL Jammu circle Gautam Lal didn't pick up his phone despite repeated calls. |
