'Ignore Hurriyat, talk to common people' | | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report Kishtwar, Sept 3: The visit of All Party Delegation (APD) to Kashmir is the talk of the town in J&K. Many people who spoke to Early Times, say that this is the time for government of India to make both the separatists irrelevant by ignoring them. "The (APD) should try to talk to common people to make the separatists irrelevant. The state government as well as the Centre should try to expose these separatists in front of the people in Kashmir by disclosing details pertaining to their wealth accumulated by them during the 25-year Kashmir turmoil," said a man from Kishtwar, pleading anonymity. Others said that it was time to win hearts and minds of the masses in Kashmir. "These days there are hundreds of boys lodged in different police stations in the Valley on charges of stone pelting. The government should not allow separatists to cash such situations. The government should order release of these boys and handover them to mosque heads or locality heads with an undertaking that these boys will not indulge in stone pelting in future," said another man. He said that this act of police would bring confidence in people of Kashmir and will be fruitful for good relationship between police and local population while at the same time the stone pelters will be under the watch of locality heads and Hurriyat fractions will automatically become irrelevant. Most of the former militants who were active in 90s and have left militancy are living their life peacefully. However there are many of them who want to live peacefully but face difficulty in managing finances for their families. Separatists are always eyeing on them and try to force them to join their upper-ground organization and use them as their ammunition for which they are reportedly being paid in between Rs. 8000 to 12000 per month. In the recent past both fractions of Hurriyat, JKLF, JKLF (R ), JKHC etc have engaged many former militants as their office bearers. Since there are reports that government of India and state government have spent hundreds of crores on medical bills and air fare for different separatist leaders in Kashmir, but unfortunately they have not spent a single penny on rehabilitation of these former militants. Many people said that it is the high time for the APD to announce general amnesty for former militants who are not involved in serious offences. People of the Kashmir valley also wonder how the separatists were provided passports and other travel documents when they are always indulging into anti-national activities and several FIRs stands registered against them. These separatists are providing money to poor youth for stone-pelting to keep unrest in Kashmir. How passport and travel documents were issued to Yasin Malik when murder cases are pending against him, whereas former militants who have left militancy 20 years back and are living their life peacefully with their families are denied passports and other avenues. Even the relatives of former militants were denied passport and other avenues. As such they are not able to move to other places for employment and other things. Government should announce comprehensive policy for ex-militants so that the separatists could be sidelined once for all. |
