'Govt withholds major reshuffle list after differences' | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 17: The PDP-BJP government has withheld a major reshuffle list after differences emerged between the alliance partners in last week's cabinet meeting, as some ministers want postings of bureaucrats in the departments of their choice. The cabinet, which met here on Friday last, approved the transfers and postings of over a dozen senior bureaucrats and officials. The meeting was presided over by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. However, official sources revealed that General Administration Department had framed a major reshuffle list but it was withheld after differences emerged between the coalition partners. "The cabinet didn't give nod to the major reshuffle list and was finally withheld," an official said. "Later, a minor transfer list was approved." The official said in the major reshuffle list, there were transfers of some District Development Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police in Kashmir. "Some of the ministers objected to the list. Some ministers want bureaucrats in the departments of their choice which was widely opposed by some cabinet ministers," he said. Besides, sources said a director of a department in Kashmir was all set to be appointed as DC Rajouri while a senior bureaucrat was to be appointed as director of a department in Kashmir having large public interface. Sources said the government has decided to terminate at least 35 employees accused of being part of "anti-India" protests and "fueling" the ongoing unrest in the Valley. "A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary B R Sharma where it was decided to terminate employees who have been participating in anti-India protests," an official privy to the meeting said. "But the PDP and BJP had diverse views on it during the cabinet meeting. There was a consensus among the ruling parties for termination of these employees but they differ over the timing of officials sacking," sources said. The official said the cabinet meeting was also postponed several times in past one month in view of the differences between the PDP and BJP. |
