Police busts module of militant sympathizers in South Kashmir | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 24: Jammu & Kashmir Police has busted a module of militant sympathizers who had plans to snatch weapons from the police personnel posted at the minority pickets in South Kashmir and then join the ranks of militants. Four members of the module were arrested by the police. The police action comes close on the heels of a video in which a militant commander could be seen asking the Kashmiri Pandits to come back to Kashmir valley and settle down at their native places in different areas of the valley. Sources said that the persons arrested had planned to snatch weapons from the police personnel and later on join the militant organizations especially Hizbul Mujahideen. However, the swift action by the police and security forces ensured that the plan is foiled even before its takes off. The action is being viewed as a major success especially following that the whole operation was being monitored by a Hizbul Mujahideen commander. A police spokesman said that Awantipora police had a specific input that a group of youth was being motivated by Hizbul Mujahideen commander Zakir Rashid Bhat alias Moosa to snatch weapons from minority pickets or police and to join the banned militant ranks. "Upon this input police arrested one Shakir Ahmad Khan and who during questioning disclosed this plan to snatch weapons. Accordingly three persons namely Mohammad Asif Khan, Adil Ahmad Najar and Saqib Nazir Bhat were taken into custody and during questioning these people confessed that they hatched a conspiracy to snatch weapons from minority pickets or police," said the police spokesman. The police spokesman said that the arrested persons had plans to join the militant ranks as soon as they snatched the weapons from the minority pickets or police personnel. Accordingly an FIR number 190/2016 under Unlawful Activities Act was registered and investigations have been set into motion, said the police spokesman adding that the operation was conducted by police along with 42 battalion of Rashtriya Rifles. Meanwhile, a statement issued by Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir said that streets and roads of the valley witnessed a huge rush as there was considerable increase in vehicles and pedestrian movement in Srinagar and other main towns of the valley. The statement said that situation remained normal and peaceful across the valley today. "Yesterday evening some unknown miscreants pelted stones and set ablaze a truck at Padshahi Bagh in the jurisdiction of Police Station Bijbehara, resulting in damages to the truck. The driver of the vehicle was injured in this incident and he was shifted to Sub District Hospital Bijbehara for treatment. FIR number 265/ 2016 was registered in this regard at police station Bijbehara and investigation was started. A manhunt has been launched to arrest the culprits involved in the case," the statement said. |
